Q: Hi. I mostly use the buses in San Antonio, so do you think I need to file a San Antonio SR22 certificate since I have been convicted of DUI?

A: Well, it is the law in Texas that almost any car you own, even if you rarely use it, needs to have liability insurance on it. Beyond that, if your license has been suspended, then you are required to have a San Antonio SR22 certificate unless you’re okay with your license being suspended yet again. Remember that driving on a suspended license is illegal, so even if you use your car only for emergencies, you don’t know where an emergency will end you up.

If you want to find a way to pay less for your San Antonio SR22 certificate, then the fact that you do very little actual driving will work in your favor. You can ask your car insurance company what the qualifications are, but most car insurance companies have on their list of discounts one for drivers who use very little mileage, called the low mileage discount. Most of the time, your mileage has to come in under 10,000 miles in one year, although there are companies which have stricter requirements. Some companies have different levels, though, such as 10% for 10,000 miles and 15% for 5,000, so consider this when choosing where to get your San Antonio SR22 certificate.
