Q: I have a San Antonio SR22 bond, but I’m moving to Nashville…do I have to file SR22 there?

A: Unless you’re moving out of the country, your San Antonio SR22 bond is going to file you wherever you go, even if you move to a state which doesn’t require car insurance coverage from anyone. It could make things a little more difficult and expensive, but if you are going to be in Nashville for six months or more, you will need to find a car insurance company there which is willing to file an out of state SR22.

That’s right–you can’t file an SR22 from another state in a different one. If you were originally filing a San Antonio SR22 bond, and you go to Nashville, then you have to continue filing your SR22 with the Texas Department of Public Safety, although not necessarily the one in San Antonio. You face the same consequences if you choose not to, which is getting your driver’s license suspended, in some places possibly getting your registration on your car, if you have one, suspended as well. Your fees for reinstating your license may also be higher, depending on the state you’re going to. Make sure that when you switch your San Antonio SR22 bond over to a Nashville company, you don’t allow any lapse so you won’t have to worry about license suspension.
