Reader’s Question:

What is the minimum coverage in San Antonio car insurance? Is it recommended to include an underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage for a traveling salesman?

Bob

San Antonio TX

In Texas, a motorist is required under the law to have a liability coverage of $25,000 for bodily injuries to one person, $50,000 for all bodily injuries, and $25,000 for property damage. That means when you buy a San Antonio car insurance, you should have at least those coverages. For a traveling salesman, a liability insurance is not enough. You should have a collision/comprehensive insurance, and yes, an underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage under your San Antonio car insurance to protect you from all sorts of damages. The collision/comprehensive coverage will keep you from worrying over repairs in the event that you get involved in a car accident.

You need not worry about getting your car back in shape. That coverage will also protect you from other forms of damages not resulting from collision. For instance, your fender is dented because you hit an animal while driving in the interstate. Your San Antonio car insurance will pay for the resulting damage. You can claim from your insurance for the fender’s repair. The underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage will also protect you from those motorists who have no insurances or who don’t enough coverage. It will also protect you in case you get hit while a pedestrian.

Q: What level of San Antonio SR22 insurance am I supposed to buy? What are the minimum limits?

A: If you want to conform to the San Antonio SR22 insurance laws in Texas, then you need to purchase general liability insurance. Liability includes coverage both for injuries and for property damages. Unlike collision insurance and medical payment insurance, liability coverages will only pay for the damages and medical bills racked up by any victims of a car crash you have caused, and does not apply to injuries or damages you have sustained. Here is a list of required coverage limits for San Antonio SR22 insurance:

  • $20,000 for bodily injury liability, which provides for coverage for one person in case of injury or death
  • $40,000 for bodily injury liability, which is the BIL limit for the entire accident
  • $15,000 for property damage liability, which provides for coverage in case of damage to vehicles, mailboxes, etc.

Granted, although these coverages may be sufficient in many instances, they will not provide the appropriate coverage should you find yourself in a serious accident, so coverage of 100/300/100is preferable.

Q: I am having trouble paying off my car and also paying for my SR22 in San Antonio. Is there some way I can manage the two in an affordable way?

A: It’s always difficult to be hit with a requirement for SR22 in San Antonio when you’re still paying off a new car–not only do you have more payments to worry about making alongside your highly rated SR22 insurance, but you also have to worry about more coverage. However, all is not lost. Make yourself a budget and figure out how much wiggle room you have in your finances, and then we’ll go from there.

Are you a good driver? Can you save money bit by bit for insurance but find yourself struggling to pay your company for SR22 in San Antonio so much every month? In those cases, it could benefit you to raise the deductible on your comprehensive and collision car insurance coverage. Usually, the lowest amount possible on these is $250, and many people just leave it there, whereas it would be better for them to raise it to a higher amount while keeping it affordable. I suggest you raise it to at least $1000. Consider this–on average, people get into some kind of accident once every five years, and this includes fender benders and other small things. You can save up a thousand bucks in that time, and meanwhile you would have saved much more on your SR22 in San Antonio.
