Reader’s Question:

I already have medical/health insurance in San Antonio. And I don’t want to pay double coverages. As much as possible, I want to save on my monthly premium rate by excluding coverages I won’t need in the future. Is it necessary for me to add coverage for health if I encounter auto accident in time that I would be needing one?

When deciding for a car insurance, It’s all about knowing how much you are able and willing to pay out from your own pocket. So you need to make sure you have the coverage you would need to make sure your expenses are well taken cared of.

In your case, check with your insurance agent your total coverage covered in your insurance policy in San Antonio. It is important to be sure than to assume for what your paying to avoid risks for higher expenses. See if your health insurance or homeowners insurance, (if you have one), cover damages brought about by car accident. Also, if you have comprehensive health coverage, you wouldn’t be needing more than the minimum for PIP (Personal Injury Protection), which could depend too on what your state requires. Ask your insurance agent if you have medical coverage on auto insurance.

That is why you need to be familiar with what coverage you have and what it pays for in case of an accident. Go ahead and read over your policy and see if there are any coverage you dont understand so you can contact your car insurance agent in San Antonio to help you explain the coverage you have.

Q: What level of San Antonio SR22 insurance am I supposed to buy? What are the minimum limits?

A: If you want to conform to the San Antonio SR22 insurance laws in Texas, then you need to purchase general liability insurance. Liability includes coverage both for injuries and for property damages. Unlike collision insurance and medical payment insurance, liability coverages will only pay for the damages and medical bills racked up by any victims of a car crash you have caused, and does not apply to injuries or damages you have sustained. Here is a list of required coverage limits for San Antonio SR22 insurance:

  • $20,000 for bodily injury liability, which provides for coverage for one person in case of injury or death
  • $40,000 for bodily injury liability, which is the BIL limit for the entire accident
  • $15,000 for property damage liability, which provides for coverage in case of damage to vehicles, mailboxes, etc.

Granted, although these coverages may be sufficient in many instances, they will not provide the appropriate coverage should you find yourself in a serious accident, so coverage of 100/300/100is preferable.
